BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University men's soccer coach Matt Briggs announced today the signing of three Omaha South High School graduates: Abel Alvarado, Bryant Bustamante and Favian Herrera. The trio will begin their academic and athletic careers at BU beginning this fall.
The Bruins have now signed four members of the 2013 Nebraska Class A State Champions. Emiliano Jacinto signed with the BU men's soccer program earlier this year.
"Omaha South is coming off of a tremendous season after winning the first state championship in school history and finishing with a 23-0 record and we are very excited to have signed four boys with such talent and a winning background," said coach Briggs. "All four players offer great quality and are extremely talented and will be a massive part of our program during the next four years."
The son of Abel and Myriam, Alvarado ranked fourth in Class A with 21 goals and 13 assists this season.
He played club soccer for the Nebraska Futbol Club (NFC) and won the 2012 USA Cup Championship.
Bustamante, who registered the assist on the game-winning goal in the state championship game, is the son of Placido and MaElena.
He played for the Omaha Futbol Club (OFC) where he helped lead his team to five state championships. Bustamante was the 2011 OFC top scorer while being named the OFC Elite 1 Player of the Year in 2012.
A native of Anaheim, Calif., Herrera is the son of Fabian and Rocio. He scored 13 goals with 15 assists as a senior.
Herrera played club soccer for NFC under coach Paul Harvey.
"All the boys have great technical ability and are very passionate about the game," added Briggs. "They will all compete for playing time immediately and will only increase the level of competition on our squad. Again, we couldn't be happier to sign four great players and four great young men."
Alvarado, Bustamante and Herrera join earlier signees Agustin Escobar (Medellin, Colombia), Scott Robertson (Burnley, England), Emiliano Jacinto (Omaha, Neb.), David Goolsby (Bellevue, Neb), Jack Coles (Cardiff, Wales), Lee Willmore (Norfolk, England), Jake Williams (Hale, England) and Ben Martin (Lincolnshire, England) in this year's recruiting class.
Bellevue ended the 2012 season with a 10-8-1 overall record. The Bruins finished second in the MCAC regular season standings with a 5-1 conference mark and also placed second in the MCAC Tournament to No. 3-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
