Personal Record Performances turned in by Debesh and Murillo at Morningside Invite
Bruin cross country runners Desyebelew Debesh and Edrei Murillo recorded season and career personal records at today's Morningside Invite held at the Adams Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, S.D.
NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. -- Bruin cross country runners Desyebelew Debesh and Edrei Murillo recorded season and career personal records at today's Morningside Invitational held at the Adams Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, S.D.
Debesh ran a lifetime best of 27:22.5 for the eight-kilometer loop, now just twenty seconds from the Bruin school record. Debesh finished 37th in the field of 120 runners. Murillo recorded a season-best time of 28:05.7 today, just a second shy of his lifetime best as he finished in 57th. Cole Wagner was the Bruins' final finisher, running 30:07.9 to put him in 95th place.
The Bruins were short-handed today and did not score as a team. Iowa Central Community College, a perennial NJCAA powerhouse, was first among the eight scoring teams. Nationally ranked NAIA squad Dordt was runner-up.
Head Coach Craig Christians was pleased with the effort overall. "We have some guys who just need to race, whether it be to get in shape or just gain some experience, and I was really happy to come away with two season and near-life bests. We're working hard and not letting up for these early meets so we are running on some weary legs. I was happy with our results today."
The Bruins will travel to Crete, Neb. next Saturday, Sept. 26, where they will compete in the Dean White Invitational hosted by Doane University. The men's portion of the meet will begin at 10:45 a.m.
