SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Three different Bruins scored to lead the No. 9-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team to a 2-0 win at Morningside University on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, Bellevue improves to 4-1-1 on the season while the loss drops the Mustangs to 1-3-1.
Jeronimo Zelaya Diaz opened the scoring for BU in the fifth minutes with his first goal of the season.
Maris Rombeck delivered the first shot on goal for the Mustangs but he was denied by Kaden Simpson in the 31st minute.
Juan Lagares had a chance to double the Bruin lead two and a half minutes later but Tim Teschner came up with a 34th minute save.
Bellevue carried that 1-0 lead into halftime on the strength of a 5-3 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in shots on goal.
The scored remained 1-0 until Samuel Puth found the back of the net in the 61st minute. Adam Sherwood headed a shot off the post but Puth followed up with an insurance strike, his second of the year.
The Bruins found an additional strike off an Okan Erkocu corner kick. His service connected with Lagares who snuck home his first goal of the season.
Morningside out-shot Bellevue 14-8 on the day and 6-4 on goal while corners were even at four apiece.
Reigning CAC Defensive Player of the Week Kaden Simpson finished with six saves to record his fourth shutout of the year.
Teschner stopped one of four shots on goal for Morningside.
Bellevue returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 10 when they host Concordia University for a 7:45 p.m. kick-off from the Renner Dennis Outdoor Athletic Complex.
