Sophomore Madison Nelson claimed her second NSAA individual title at Friday’s cross country championship hosted by Dickinson State at the Heart River Golf Course. Cool morning temperatures forced a 90 minute delay to the start time but bright sunshine and a stiff breeze greeted the 49 runners who toed the line at 1:15 PM.
Madison Nelson and Hannah Perkins continued their steady improvement at Saturday's Mount Marty Invitational held at Yankton's Fox Run Golf Course. Perfect conditions, with temperatures in the 50's, sunny skies, and a light breeze, greeted the 148 women who toed the starting line for the five-kilometer event.
Madison Nelson continued her outstanding sophomore season with a top-twenty finish at Friday's Platte River Rumble hosted by Creighton and UNO. The meet was held under fall-like conditions with overcast skies and temperatures in the fifties over the undulating two-kilometer loop at Mahoney State Park. The Bruin women ran the NCAA distance of six kilometers for the first time this season in a field of 124 runners comprised of mostly NCAA Division I and Division II athletes.
Madison Nelson produced her third Top Five finish of the season at Saturday’s Briar Cliff Invite run under pleasant conditions at the Adams Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, SD. She was the fourth collegiate finisher on the day and sixth overall in the field of 89 that featured athletes from ten schools, including NCAA Division I South Dakota State and Dordt University, currently ranked at No. 8 among NAIA teams. Nelson’s time was once again a personal best and a ten-second reduction of the Bellevue Bruin school record, crossing the line in 18:34.7.
Madison Nelson broke up a string of twelve Augustana runners with her fifth-place finish at Friday's Wildcat Classic hosted by Wayne State. Run under ideal conditions and over a challenging course of rolling hills, Nelson settled into a pack of Vikings and used a strong finish to pass two runners down the home stretch. Her time of 19:11 was over a minute faster over the same course a year ago.
Sophomore Madison Nelson took nearly a full minute from the Bruin school record time for 5 kilometers at today's Greeno/Dirksen cross country invitational hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan at Mahoney Park in Lincoln.
