BU Powers Past Orediggers for Season Sweep
BUTTE, Mont. -- The seventh-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team extended its winning streak to 10 matches — all in Frontier Conference play — with a 3–1 (25–18, 19–25, 25–16, 25–15) road victory at Montana Tech University on Thursday evening at Kelvin Sampson Court inside Valley Bank Arena. The win completed a season sweep of the Orediggers, as Bellevue also earned a 3–0 victory on Sept. 19 in Bellevue.
With the win, Bellevue improved to 20–3 overall and 16–2 in the Frontier Conference, while MTU fell to 14–10 overall and 10–8 in league play.
Eve Fountain led all players with 15 kills on .519 hitting to go along with nine digs and two aces, increasing her career total to 1,789 kills — now just 97 shy of Sierra Athen's Bellevue career record (1,886; 2018–22). Kealy Kiviniemi added nine kills and six blocks, and Chloe Cloud anchored the net with a match-high eight blocks, helping the Bruins out-block the Orediggers 12–5. Savanna Berger also chipped in five kills and four blocks.
Bellevue's three-setter rotation of Mila Aiwohi, Victoria Runyan, and Jada Nunn combined for 43 assists, with Aiwohi distributing 26. Zoie Roghair collected a team-high 12 digs, and Ali Butler added 11 digs and two service aces as the Bruins held MTU to a .071 hitting percentage.
For MTU, Payton Treadwell led with 13 kills, followed by Kinnidi Willmore with 10. Ellie Reinertson and Rhys Layton combined for 34 assists, and Emmy Green led the Oredigger defense with nine digs.
Set 1 | Bellevue 25, MTU 18
The opening set featured six ties and four lead changes before Bellevue took control late. With the score tied at 12–12, the Bruins closed on a 13–6 run highlighted by kills from Fountain and Kiviniemi, along with two blocks by Cloud. The frame ended on a Willmore attack error, sealing the 25–18 win for BU, which hit .267 with 13 kills and four blocks in the set.
Set 2 | MTU 25, Bellevue 19
The Orediggers evened the match with their most efficient offensive frame, hitting .393 while committing only one error. Bellevue held an early 8–7 edge before MTU used a 6–0 run to seize control and never trailed again. Fountain and Kiviniemi each notched three kills, but BU's .200 hitting clip wasn't enough to overcome Tech's balanced attack in the 25–19 loss.
Set 3 | Bellevue 25, MTU 16
Bellevue responded strongly in the third, opening up a 5–1 lead before MTU rallied to tie it at 9–9. The Bruins then put together an 8–2 run capped by a Cloud block and Kiviniemi kill to build a 17–11 cushion. BU hit .348 in the frame with 11 kills on 23 swings and only three errors. Fountain led with five kills, and Cloud added three blocks to help the Bruins reclaim a 2–1 match advantage.
Set 4 | Bellevue 25, MTU 15
Bellevue maintained momentum in the fourth, using a 14–4 surge to turn an 8–8 tie into a commanding 22–12 lead following its third consecutive block. Cloud and Berger were pivotal at the net during the stretch, combining on multiple stuffs, while A'Lailah Perry's kill closed out the 25–15 victory. The Bruins hit .296 with 12 kills and seven blocks in the final frame to secure the road win and their 10th-straight conference victory.
