No. 8 Bellevue Sweeps Mayville State for Third-Straight Win
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The eighth-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team made it three in a row with a 3-0 sweep of Mayville State University, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16, on Friday afternoon in Frontier Conference action at the BU Fieldhouse.
With the victory, Bellevue improved to 13-3 overall and 9-2 in league play. The Comets fell to 5-11 on the season and 3-8 in Frontier play.
Bentlee Kollbaum, Payton Dzingle, and Eve Fountain each registered five kills to lead a balanced Bruin attack. Dzingle hit a team-high .556, while Fountain was close behind at .500 as neither player committed a hitting error in the match. Chloe Cloud, Kenzie Polk, and Kealy Kiviniemi chipped in four kills apiece. Setters Mila Aiwohi (13 assists, four aces, six digs) and Jada Nunn (15 assists, ace, five digs) ran the offense to a .258 hitting efficiency, while libero Zoie Roghair anchored the back row with 13 digs.
Mayville State was led by Andrea Majchrzak with 11 kills on .375 hitting. Desidy Schwanke added nine kills and a team-high 11 digs, while Tali Cornillez contributed three service aces and six digs.
Set 1: Bellevue 25, Mayville State 18
The opening set featured four ties before Bellevue surged ahead on an 8-3 run sparked by a block from Cloud and an ace by Ali Butler. MSU stayed close behind kills from Majchrzak and Schwanke, but BU pulled away late with points from Kollbaum and Fountain. Kollbaum and Cloud combined on a block to secure the frame.
Set 2: Bellevue 25, Mayville State 19
The Comets opened strong with a 6-1 lead behind two aces from Cornillez and a kill from Majchrzak. Bellevue answered with a 6-0 spurt keyed by Dzingle and Nunn to tie at 7-7. After two more ties, BU steadily pulled away. Majchrzak and Schwanke combined for five kills to keep MSU within reach, but Kollbaum and Rowyn Scheer fueled a late Bruin run to close out the set.
Set 3: Bellevue 25, Mayville State 16
The third set was the most competitive early, featuring seven ties and four lead changes through 10-10. MSU leaned on Majchrzak and Schwanke to keep pace, but BU responded with a 5-0 run highlighted by kills from Kollbaum and Kiviniemi, along with an Aiwohi ace. Dzingle added two late kills before Perry ended the match with a swing from Nunn.
