Scanlan signs with Bellevue volleyball for 2015

Bruin head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of 6-1 middle blocker Shayla Scanlan (Plattsmouth, Neb./Plattsmouth HS) to a letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic careers at Bellevue University beginning in the fall of 2015.
Scanlan, the daughter of Jeff and Joy Scanlan, was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball at Plattsmouth High School under coach Marla Smith. She earned first team all-conference honors in 2012, 2013, and 2014 and was named the team's most valuable defensive player in her final two seasons.
Scanlan was also a four-year letterwinner in basketball and track and field., earning all-conference honors last season in basketball and named PHS's Field Athlete of the Year in 2014.
"Shayla is a tall and athletic middle," said Siedlik. "She has a very high ceiling with unlimited potential. Shayla has not been tested yet and we are very excited to give her those challenges."
An excellent student, Scanlan earned Plattsmouth's Academic Achievement Award and was named to the Honor Roll 14 quarters.
Scanlan played club volleyball for Omaha Wave under coach Susan Kracl, helping lead her team to the 2011 JVA Junior Nationals in Orlando, Fla., and the 2014 USA Junior Nationals in Minneapolis, Minn.
"Shayla will add much-needed depth in the middle, which will be crucial to our success next year," added Siedlik.
Scanlan joins earlier signee Marylyn Mozena (Weeping Water, Neb./Weeping Water HS) in the 2015 recruiting class. Scanlan and Mozena will be playing club volleyball together this season on Impact 18's out of Omaha.
The Bruins finished the 2014 season with a 22-20 record, placing second in the MCAC regular season with a 6-2 league mark.
