Bruins announce signing of Mejia to LOI
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head women's soccer coach Tom White announced the signee of Dayana Mejia (Azogues, Ecuador) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning next fall.
Mejia is the daughter of Eddy Mejia Zambrano and Fanny Lucia Palacios and plays her club soccer for Progreso FC under the guidance of Jose Gregorio Calle Barahona. She currently attends high school at Luis Cordero Educational Unit.
During her glittering soccer career Dayana has captained both high school and club to a copious number of accolades including qualifying for the national games in 2022.
Mejia has also competed in the prestigious CONMEBOL tournament with Progreso FC.
Coach White on Mejia:
"Dayana will be an exciting addition to the squad who will make an immediate impact. She will give us a lot of competition within our defensive unit. She is a versatile defender that is comfortable playing anywhere along the backline. Moreover, she is a competitor and one that works hard to get better herself as well as push team mates".
Mejia joins earlier signees Larisa Djurkovic (RW, Podgorica, Montenegro) and Mayerli Huaraca (F, Quito, Ecuador) in the Bruins' 2026 signing class.
The Bruins closed out the season with a 12-3-2 overall mark, going 2-0-0 against CAC foes during the regular season, and reached the Continental Athletic Conference Championship match for the fifth-straight season.
