Bruins Net Season-High Nine Goals in Shutout Victory
Bellevue, Neb. — The Bellevue University women's soccer team delivered its most commanding performance of the season on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 9-0 victory over Dakota State University at the Renner Dennis Outdoor Athletic Complex. The Bruins scored six times in the first half and added three more after the break to post their season-high goal total. With the win, Bellevue improved to 9-1-2 on the year, while Dakota State dropped to 0-12-1. The Bruins closed out a dominant week offensively, scoring 15 goals across two matches following Wednesday's 6-0 win at Briar Cliff.
Katrina Avila opened the scoring in the 15th minute when she converted a feed from Prescillia Casu to give the Bruins an early edge. Baylee Tex doubled the lead in the 22nd minute, finishing a setup from Aileen Perez before Perez found the back of the net herself just five minutes later to make it 3-0. Izzy Ashby extended the margin in the 36th minute with a strike from 35 yards out, and Tex notched her second of the day in the 39th minute off assists from Lily Humes and Sam Mausbach. Humes capped the first-half surge with a goal from close range in the 45th minute as Bellevue took a 6-0 advantage into the break.
Avila struck again midway through the second half, finishing a pass from Beth Cowd in the 71st minute to push the lead to seven. Layla Vazquez scored directly off a corner kick in the 80th minute, and Humes added her second goal in the 89th minute on a corner from Vazquez to close out the 9-0 shutout.
Tex, Avila, and Humes each scored twice to pace the balanced attack, while Perez, Ashby, and Vazquez added one goal apiece. Vazquez, Casu, Humes, Cowd, and Mausbach all contributed assists in the victory.
Goalkeepers Abril Cura and Sienna Phelps combined for Bellevue's fifth shutout of the season. Cura started and played the first 45 minutes without facing a shot on goal, while Phelps made two second-half saves to preserve the clean sheet.
