Big week sees BU sweep CAC awards
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Bellevue University junior defender Maju Serrano (Quito, Ecuador) and sophomore forward Adi Kasel (Omaha, Neb.) have been cited as the Continental Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week, as announced by the CAC office on Monday morning.
The duo played an instrumental role in a pair of road victories at Warner and Florida National in which BU totaled 13 goals as the Bruins improved to 7-1-2 on the season.
Serrano earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season and the fourth time in her Bruin career. She dished out five assists on the week while anchoring a defense that yielded just six shots on goal across two games. She delivered three assists in the win over Warner and added two more against Florida National, including assisting the game-winning strike against the Conquistadors.
Kasel took home CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades after totaling five goals last week. She netted multiple strikes in each of BU's matches, running her season total to a team-leading seven goals on the year and pulling her into a tie for first with a pair of game-winners. She scored twice in a 6-2 triumph over Warner and bagged her first collegiate hat trick in a 7-1 win at FNU, scoring the eventual game-winner in both contests.
The Bruins travel to Sioux City, Iowa on Wednesday, Oct. 1 for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off against Briar Cliff University (2-7-0) from Faber Field.
