Fast start sees BU down CSM, 5-0
OMAHA, Neb. -- Prescillia Casu scored a pair of goals and added an assist to power the Bellevue University women's soccer team past College of Saint Mary 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Heritage Park.
The Bruins continue their unbeaten start to the season, improving to 5-0-2 while the loss drops the host Flames to 1-6-0 on the year.
Aileen Perez put the Bruins on the board in the game's seventh minute, finding the back of the net for the fourth time this season, with the assist going to Olivia Wahl.
Prescillia Casu doubled the Bruin lead in the 20th minute, scoring her first goal of the season, while Mia Hurt contributed the assist.
Bellevue took that 2-0 lead into halftime on the strength of a 9-3 advantage in shots, 6-2 in shots on goal, and 2-1 on corner kicks.
Casu added to her tally in the game's 53rd minute, striking for the second time in the game. Her initial attempt was turned away by keeper Jenna Brown but she followed up and knocked in her rebound to give Bellevue a 3-0 lead.
Less than 90 seconds later Casu had a hand in another Bruin goal. This time she set up teammate Katrina Avila for her first of the season in the 54th minute.
Reigning CAC Offensive Player of the Week Baylee Tex worked her way into the scoring column in the 62nd minute, delivering her third goal of the season off an assist from Clementine Smidt.
The Bruins finished the game out-shooting CSM 22-4, including piling on a 17-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Abril Cura totaled two saves in goal for the Bruins in recording her third shutout of the season. Brown made 11 stops in net for CSM in the loss.
Bellevue returns home on Saturday, Sept. 20 when they entertain Oklahoma City University at the Renner Dennis Outdoor Athletic Complex for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
