Bruins battle Bulldogs to draw
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Lily Humes scored her second goal of the season to pull the Bruins level as the Bellevue University women's soccer team picked up a 1-1 draw against (RV) Concordia University on Wednesday evening.
The game marked the program's first-ever home game at the Renner Dennis Outdoor Athletic Complex.
With the tie, BU sees their record move to 2-0-1 and CUNE now stands at 3-0-2.
Bellevue controlled the flow of play, possession, and attack for almost the entirety of the opening 15-plus minutes. The Bruins generated three shots and a corner kick and seemingly had most of the momentum.
Control flipped quickly as Concordia won two successive corners around the midway mark of the half and scored a fortunate goal.
Abril Cura attempted to clear a ball from near her own end line but her effort deflected off the leg of Kierstynn Garner and bounded back into the Bruin goal as CUNE took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.
The Bulldogs continued pressing forward, looking for a second goal but the Bruins found the next strike at the other end. Maju Serrano played a cross from the far side of the box to Lily Humes at the opposite post and Humes headed home her second goal of the season to pull BU level in the 35th minute.
The score remained tied into halftime
Quality scoring chances were few and far between in the second half with the best chance coming on a 77th minute run from CUNE when an attacker cut back around Bellevue's Elisa Rousseau and delivered a ball to the edge of the six. Morgan Miller stepped up and turned it away to keep the game even.
Bellevue out-shot Concordia 16-5 on the evening, racking up an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Allya Video totaled 10 saves for the Bulldogs while Cura finished with one save for Bellevue.
Bellevue returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 when they travel to Sioux City, Iowa for a 1 p.m. kick-off against Morningside University from Elwood Olsen Stadium.
