Phillipson picks up final CAC Defensive Player of the Week Honor
Emma Phillipson (Omaha, Neb.) has been named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Bruins’ win over Waldorf on Saturday.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Bellevue University senior Emma Phillipson (Omaha, Neb.) has been named the Continental Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the CAC office on Monday morning.
On Saturday, Phillipson anchored a defensive unit that limited Waldorf to three shots, just one of which found its way on goal, as Bellevue posted their first shutout since Sept. 4. Additionally, she provided the assist on a 70th minute insurance strike to ensure the victory.
The award is the first weekly honor of Phillipson's career, though she was named to the A.I.I. All-Tournament Team this past spring.
Bellevue (7-9-0) is seeded third in this weekend's CAC Tournament. The Bruins face No. 2-seed Viterbo University (10-4-0) at 1 p.m. in a semifinal match with the winner earning a spot in Saturday's final as well as the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.
