Women's Soccer signs German keeper Staufenbiel

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bruin women's soccer program, under head coach Andy Nicolarsen, is pleased to announce the signing of Sabrina Staufenbiel (Monchengladbach, Germany) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2017. 

Staufenbiel is the daughter of Rose-Laure and Bernd Staufenbiel. She comes to Bellevue from Gymnasium St. Wolfhelm High School in her hometown of Monchengladbach.

She plays her club soccer with Tura Bruggen for coach Monika Gruteser in the German fourth division. In 2015, Staufenbiel was awarded best goalkeeper at the Hallen Masters Duelken tournament. She plans to study either business administration or psychology at Bellevue.

"Sabrina is an athletic, aggressive goalkeeper with good instincts and shot stopping ability. She has a great framework for success and will develop into a very good player once she has the time to adjust to the college game."

This past season the Bruins posted a 12-5-1 overall record and a 3-1-0 mark in conference play en route to claiming both the North Star Regular-Season and Tournament Championships. BU closed the season on a high note, winning four-straight games and posting an 8-1-1 mark in their final 10 contests.
