BU plays two matches at St. Ambrose Invitational

The Bellevue University women’s soccer team returns to action this week when they travel to Davenport, Iowa for the Saint Ambrose University Invitational. Bellevue will open the tournament against SAU on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1:00 p.m. before playing Ashford University at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Bellevue holds a 3-1-1 advantage against Ashford while the all-time series with Saint Ambrose is tied at 1-1-0.

Scouting Bellevue:
The Bruins return 12 letterwinners and eight starters from last year’s team that finished 15-4-2 and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in program history. BU is currently 1-0-0 following a 2-1 win at Concorida (Neb.) University on Saturday, Aug 27.
Alyssa Porter and Jessica Damery have both scored goals while Yaritza Estrada leads BU with three shots on goal and two assists.Goalkeeper Caitlin Stier notched nine saves in her Bruin debut.
Opponents have registered 19 shots and 10 on goal, while BU has recorded eight total shots, including five on goal.

SEWARD, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women’s soccer team opened the 2011 season with a 2-1 win at Concordia (Neb.) University Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium.
Alyssa Porter and Jessica Damery each scored goals while Yaritza Estrada led BU with three shots on goal and added the assist on both goals.
Preseason Rankings:
BU opens the 2011 season ranked No. 26 after earning 109 votes in the preseason top 25 coaches’ poll released on Tuesday, Aug. 16. The Bruins were just two votes shy of No. 25 Auburn University at Montgomery.
Bellevue was also selected as the top team in the 2011 MCAC women’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll released on Tuesday, Aug. 23. The Bruins went 5-0 in the MCAC in 2010, claiming the MCAC regular season and tournament titles.
Last Season Recap:
The Bruins finished last season with a 15-4-2 overall record and an undefeated 5-0 conference mark. They also advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history after winning the Unaffiliated Group Tournament title. Head coach Andy Nicolarsen was named the MCAC Coach of the Year for the third straight season.
Up Next:
The Bruins will make their home debut on Friday, Sept. 9 when they welcome Hastings College to Tranquility Park. Kick-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
