Plattsmouth's Kuss signs with BU women's soccer
The Bruin Women’s soccer program, under head coach Andy Nicolarsen, is pleased to announce the signing of Amanda Kuss to a letter of intent to compete for the Bruins in the upcoming 2012 season. Kuss is the daughter of Phill and Kelley and sister to Kelsey and resides with her family in Plattsmouth, Neb.
Kuss is currently a senior at Plattsmouth High School and has been a three-year starter and varsity letterwinner under head coach Don Gilpin. She will help captain the team into her senior season this spring.
While at Plattsmouth, she registered four goals and 17 assists from a defensive position earning all-Eastern Midlands Conference honorable mention honors as well as Class B all-state honorable mention accolades. Kuss played her club soccer with the Bellevue Blast soccer team under coaches Bob Brandriff and her father Phill Kuss.
“Amanda is another great addition to next year’s team," said Nicolarsen. "She has a ton of speed and can cover a lot of space quickly."
Kuss was a significant player for the Blast which was a very accomplished local team winning three Nebraska Soccer League divisional championships during her time with the team.
"She is also technically skilled and knows how to combine with other players from an outside position," added Nicolarsen. "We are very happy to have her in the program.
Kuss also lettered in volleyball at PHS during her junior season.
Kuss joins earlier signees Betsy Fischenich (Omaha, Neb./Burke HS) and Kate Petersen (Springfield, Neb./Platteview HS) in the 2012 recruiting class.
The 2011 Bruins finished the season with a 14-2-3 overall record, winning the MCAC Tournament title and tying for the MCAC regular season crown with a 5-0-1 league record. Bellevue advanced to the NAIA National Championship for the second-straight season and ended the year with a No. 18 final national ranking.
