Nicolarsen signs Platteview's Bailey
Bellevue University head women's soccer coach Andy Nicolarsen announced today the signing of local high school standout Bailey Moore (Springfield, Neb./Platteview HS) to an NAIA national letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue University in the fall of 2010.
The daughter of Kelly Moore and Rick Moore, Bailey was a four-year letterwinner in soccer and a three-year letterwinner in basketball at Platteview High School.
Moore captained both her high school basketball and soccer teams and was a 2009 all-Eastern Midlands Conference selection in soccer.
"Her competitiveness, physical size, speed and outstanding attitude will add to the Bruin roster for the 2010 season," said Nicolarsen.
Moore returned to action after suffering a severely broken leg in the fall of 2008. Following her injury which occurred while playing club soccer, Moore sat out her junior season of basketball to rehabilitate her leg. She was back on the soccer field last spring and contributed to Platteview’s 8-6 season, and returned to the basketball court for the Trojans last December.
Moore has one goal after four games this spring for the 4-1 Trojans. Her playing time has been somewhat limited after suffering a stress fracture in an ankle while running during pre-season practice.
“She’s a big, strong athletic kid that has a great work rate and a ton of potential,” Nicolarsen said following Moore’s signing event. “With her size, speed and determination I think she’s going to fit in well at the next level.”
Moore’s acceptance of the Bruins’ scholarship offer fulfills her goal of playing college soccer that was nearly derailed by her leg injury, then again by the stress fracture suffered before her final high school season started.
“I’m really excited because I didn’t know if I’d ever get to play again,” Moore said. “I’ve been working to get my speed back, and I’m really glad I could accomplish my goal.”
Moore's high school coach, Amber Briggs, believes Moore will benefit from her injury experience.
"Bailey has overcome a serious injury and faced adversity head on," Briggs said. "She will be a great asset at the collegiate level."
Moore won't be the only Trojans girl heading to Bellevue for college. Classmate Annie Benson will join the Bruins’ volleyball program next fall.
