Bruins win Lark Invite, claim three of top five spots
ANDOVER, Kan. -- Isabella Gomez fired a 4-over second round to secure a second place individual finish and led the Bellevue University women's golf team to the team crown at The Lark Invitational.
The 36-hole tournament was played at the 5,792-yard, par-71 Terradyne Country Club.
Bellevue carded a team score of 314 (+30) in Tuesday's second round as they won their second tournament of the season. The Bruins finished 71-over (639) for the tournament, seven strokes ahead of second place Columbia College (646, +78).
Seminole State College finished third at 83-over (651). Central Christian College (794, +226) rounded out the four-team field in a distant fourth.
Columbia's Ellie Soderholm turned in the best round of the tournament with an even par 71 on Tuesday to pull away for the individual title. She finished at 4-under, seven shots ahead of Gomez.
Gomez fired a 4-over 75 on the day, her round highlighted by a pair of birdies on the 357-yard, par 4 No. 5 and the 161-yard, par 3 No. 12 to go with 10 pars. She finished the tournament at 11-over (153).
Shreya Suresh and Patricija Jakovleva posted matching 7-over 78s on the day to finish third and fifth, respectively. Suresh made a birdie on the 353-yard, par 4 No. 4 to go along with 11 pars to shoot 16-over (158) for the tournament. Jakovleva sunk birdies on both the 321-yard, par 4 No. 14 and the 327-yard, par 4 No. 16 along with nine pars of her own finishing at 20-over (162).
Nellie Forsen turned in a 12-over 83 for the round to match her first round score, placing 11th in the 28-golfer field at 24-over (166). She made nine pars on the day.
