Bellevue holds first-round lead at Lark Invitational
ANDOVER, Kan. -- Paced by the play of Isabella Gomez, the Bellevue University women's golf team grabbed a two-stroke lead to stake first place following Monday's opening round of The Lark Invitational.
The 36-hole tournament is being played at the 5,792-yard, par-71 Terradyne Country Club.
The Bruins carded a team score of 325 (+41) to secure the top spot in the four-team field. Columbia (Mo.) College sits closely behind in second place after shooting a 327 (+43), while Seminole State (Okla.) College occupies third at 331 (+47). Central Christian (Kan.) College rounds out the team standings in fourth (411, +127).
At the top of the individual leaderboard, Columbia's Ellie Soderholm holds the lead after shooting a 4-over par 75. Seminole State's Peyton Black is in second place at 6-over par (77).
Gomez currently holds third place overall at 7-over par (78). Playing a steady round, she compiled a team-high 12 pars on the day.
Shreya Suresh occupies fourth place at 9-over par (80). Rebounding from a 43 on the front nine to shoot a 37 on the back, she tallied seven pars and highlighted her round with a spectacular eagle on the 507-yard, par-5 11th hole. She also sank birdies on the 289-yard, par-4 13th and 449-yard, par-5 18th holes.
Nellie Forsen shares sixth place at 12-over (83). Improving by five strokes on her back nine to shoot a 39, she recorded seven pars and converted a birdie on the 289-yard, par-4 13th hole.
Patricija Jakovleva rounded out the lineup and sits in a tie for ninth place at 13-over par (84). She registered eight pars and secured a birdie on the 449-yard, par-5 18th hole.
