Pair of top 10 finishes pace BU
AMARILLO, Texas -- Shreya Suresh and Patricija Jakovleva each recorded top 10 finishes to held the Bellevue University women's golf team finish fourth overall as the Top of Texas Invitational, hosted by Wayland Baptist University at the 5,864-yard, par 71 Tascosa Golf Club.
New Mexico Junior College and University of Science & Arts each shot 27-over in Tuesday's final round as NMJC maintained their 12-stroke advantage to take the team title with a 54-hole score of 735 (+96) to the Drovers' 747 (+108). Wayland Baptist turned in a +39 on the day to finish in third at +135 and Bellevue posted a +40 third round to check in at +156 for the event. University of the Southwest (+209) and Southwestern Christian University (+245) carded rounds of 74- and 75-over.
Suresh jumped two spots on the individual leaderboard, turning in the best performance by a Bruin golfer on the week with her 2-over 73. At 22-over (235), she finished sixth overall. Her round was highlighted by birdies on all three par fives: the 412-yard No. 15, 480-yard No. 8, and 493-yard No. 11
Patricija Jakovleva moved up four spots to finishing ninth at 27-over (240). She turned in her best scorecard of the tournament with a 4-over third round 75. She made birdie on a par of par threes – 120-yard No. 16 and 158-yard No. 4 – as well as on the par five No. 8.
Nellie Forsen also posted her best round of the event on Tuesday, logging an 11-over 82 that saw her post 10 pars as she moved up one spot to finish 18th overall with a 54-hole score of 257 (+44).
Isabella Gomez finished 24th overall at 63-over (276), closing out the Top of Texas Invitational with a third round 94. Her final round was highlighted with a birdie on the 345-yard, par four No. 2 and a strong 5-over 40 on the front nine.
Science & Arts' Amy Reavis erased a one-stroke deficit with a 2-over 73 in the final round to jump New Mexico JC's Ella Cornwell who posted an 8-over 79 on Tuesday. Reavis finished the tournament at 11-over (224) while Cornwell and USAO's Hudson Woloss shared second place at 16-over (229).
The Bruins return to the links next Monday-Tuesday, Mar. 16-17 at the Kyle Blaser Invitational, hosted by Oklahoma City University at the Gaillardia Country Club.
