Bruins sit in sixth place after opening day of RMC Intercollegiate
HENDERSON, Nev. -- Playing through mostly sunny skies, light winds, and temperatures ranging from the upper 60s to the mid-70s, the Bellevue University women's golf team opened its spring season on Monday, sitting in sixth place following the first two rounds of the RMC Intercollegiate at Lake Las Vegas.
The 54-hole tournament is being played at the 5,861-yard, par-72 Reflection Bay Golf Course.
Bellevue shot 347 (+59) as a team in the opening round and improved by two strokes to shoot 345 (+57) in the afternoon, compiling a 36-hole total of 692 (+116). The Bruins hold a five-stroke lead over Southern Oregon (+121) while Dakota Wesleyan (+182) rounds out the eight-team field.
British Columbia leads the tournament with a team score of 615 (+39), holding an eight-stroke advantage over UBC Okanagan (+47). Host Rocky Mountain sits in third at 648 (+72), followed by UT Southern (+93) and Master's (+102). UBC Okanagan's Julia Alexander Carew surged into the individual lead after carding a 2-under 70 in the second round, bringing her overall total to 146 (+2). British Columbia's Keira Hou sits in second place at 6-over (150), while her teammates Jessica Ng and Sarah Yang are tied for third at 8-over (152).
Shreya Suresh leads the Bruins and sits in 14th place overall at 20-over with a two-round total of 164 (82-82). After recording nine pars in her opening round, Suresh secured a pair of birdies during her afternoon 18 holes. She converted on the 488-yard, par-5 ninth hole and the 472-yard, par-5 12th hole, and added seven pars in the second round.
Nellie Forsen is tied for 15th place overall at 22-over (166). She shot a team-best 80 in the first round, highlighted by birdies on the 294-yard, par-4 first hole and the 497-yard, par-5 sixth hole. She added an 86 in the second round, recording eight pars to match her team-high 10 pars from the morning.
Isabella Gomez is currently in 30th place at 32-over (176) after improving by four strokes between rounds. She followed an opening-round 90 with an 86 in the afternoon, tallying eight pars in her second round, including on the 472-yard, par-5 12th hole and the 331-yard, par-4 18th hole.
Patricija Jakovleva is tied for 35th place at 42-over (186) after also knocking four strokes off her morning score. Following a 95 in the opening round, she carded a 91 in the afternoon. Jakovleva's second round was highlighted by a birdie on the 325-yard, par-4 10th hole.
