Bruins Sixth After Day One at OUAZ Fall Invitational
SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Bellevue University women's golf team sits in sixth place after 36 holes at the OUAZ Fall Invitational, held at the 5,840-yard, par-72 Sterling Grove Golf Club. The Bruins opened with a 325 in round one before improving to 307 in the second round for a 36-hole total of 632 (+56). The 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
Shreya Suresh leads the Bruins and is tied for 15th overall after rounds of 78 and 77 (155, +11). In round two, she posted a steady 1-over 37 on the back nine with one birdie, two bogeys, and six pars.
Patricija Jakovleva made the biggest jump for Bellevue, improving from an opening 83 to a 2-over 74 in the afternoon. Her second round featured the highlight of the day — an eagle on the 511-yard, par-5 fourth hole — along with a birdie and 14 pars. She sits tied for 20th at 157 (+13) after also recording three birdies in round one.
Nellie Forsen is tied for 23rd at 160 (+16) after rounds of 82 and 78. Her second round included an even-par 36 on the back nine, highlighted by a birdie on the 303-yard, par-4 14th hole.
Isabella Gomez is also tied for 23rd at 160 (+16) following rounds of 82 and 78, showing solid improvement in the afternoon. She closed her second round with a 1-over 37 on the back nine, carding two birdies, three bogeys, and four pars.
Team & Individual Leaders
UBC Okanagan and Embry-Riddle (AZ) are tied atop the team leaderboard at 583 (+7). Arizona Christian (614), Victoria BC (615), and OUAZ (616) round out the top five, with Bellevue sixth at 632 (+56).
Julia Alexander Carew (UBC Okanagan) leads the individual field at 5-under (139) after rounds of 67 and 72. She holds a four-shot lead over Olivia Zamarripa (Embry-Riddle) at 143 (-1). Embry-Riddle's Bellamaria Mantini sits third at even-par 144, followed by Shinyao Zhang (UBCO) at +1 (145). Tied for fifth at +2 (146) are Emma Marshall (Embry-Riddle) and Bess Chan (UBCO).
