Suresh paces Bruins on Day One at Beartooth Invitational
LAUREL, Mont. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team sits in third place after Monday's opening round of the Beartooth Invitational, hosted by Rocky Mountain College at the par-72, 6,076-yard Laurel Golf Course. The Bruins carded a team score of 331 (+43), trailing Rocky Mountain (+21) and Montana Tech (+37) in the seven-team field.
Shreya Suresh led the Bruins with a 7-over 79, posting 10 pars and a birdie on the par-5 11th, including a steady 39 on the back nine. Isabella Gomez followed with an 83 (+11), highlighted by birdies on holes 3 and 11. Patricija Jakovleva added an 84 (+12) that included a 39 on the front nine and seven pars. Nellie Forsen rounded out Bellevue's team score with an 85 (+13), finishing with 10 pars on the round.
Rocky Mountain College dominated the individual leaderboard with the top four finishers. Tyla Potgieter leads the 44-player field after firing a 3-over 75, followed by teammates Kadence Fischer (77, +5) and Kirsten Smith (78, +6). Grace Metcalf is tied for fourth with Bellevue's Suresh and Rocky's Carlee Verdugo, all shooting 79 (+7).
The tournament concludes on Tuesday with a 10 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.
