Muhammad takes home Frontier DPOTW honors
HELENA, Mont. -- Bellevue University junior forward Zakiyyah Muhammad (Omaha, Neb.) has been cited as the Frontier Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Muhammad posted a double-double, scoring a team-high 12 points and hauling down 10 rebounds including six defensive boards in BU's season-opening 77-47 win over College of Saint Mary. At the defensive end, she recorded a steal and blocked a shot as the Bruins frustrated the Flames' offense. BU limited CSM to just 27% shooting from the floor, including a meager 4-23 (17%) from three, and forced 17 turnovers.
The Player of the Week award is the third such award of Muhammad's career after having previously been named NSAA Player of the Week on Dec. 18, 2023 and NSAA Defensive Player of the Week on Dec. 16, 2024.
Bellevue travels to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off against Mount Mercy University.
