BU Softball signs Iowa high school standout Mack Sims
BELLEVUE, Neb. — Bellevue University head softball coach Michala Cimino announced today the signing of Mack Sims (Newton, Iowa/Newton HS) as the second member of the Bruins' 2026-27 recruiting class. Sims will begin her academic and athletic career at BU beginning in the fall of 2026.
Sims, a 5-foot-6 utility standout, is the daughter of Ryan and Dani Sims and preps at Newton High School under head coach Kory Leiker.
Throughout her high school career, Sims has compiled a .392 batting average, accompanied by 19 home runs, 20 doubles, 10 triples, 71 RBIs, and 69 stolen bases. She is a two-time all-state and two-time all-district selection (2024, 2025) and a four-time Little Hawkeye All-Conference honoree (2022-25). Sims earned team MVP honors in 2025 and was a three-time offensive MVP from 2022-24.
A multi-sport athlete, Sims has also excelled in track and field, qualifying for the Drake Relays three times and the Iowa State Track Meet three times.
In the classroom, Sims has been named to the Honor Roll every quarter (13 times) and is a member of the National Honor Society, as well as a recipient of the Silver Cord award. She plans to major in Elementary Education at Bellevue.
Sims plays summer ball for the Iowa Nationals, coached by Nick Lavorato, helping the program compile a 134-30-7 record over three years.
Sims joins pitcher Isabel Raburn (Holdrege, Neb./Northeast CC) in the Bruins' 2026-27 recruiting class.
Bellevue posted a 29-21 overall record during the 2025 season, finishing third in the North Star Athletic Association regular-season standings with a 12-8 league mark.
