Jurek, Cunningham garner weekly NSAA honors
Junior pitcher/designated player Lauren Jurek and freshman pitcher Katie Cunningham helped the Bellevue University softball team sweep the weekly North Star Athletic Association honors for the second-straight week. Jurek was named the NSAA Player of the Week, while Cunningham earned NSAA Pitcher of the Week honors.
MADISON, S.D. -- Junior pitcher/designated player Lauren Jurek and freshman pitcher Katie Cunningham helped the Bellevue University softball team sweep the weekly North Star Athletic Association honors for the second-straight week. Jurek was named the NSAA Player of the Week, while Cunningham earned NSAA Pitcher of the Week honors.
The duo helped the Bruins to a 5-0 week, including a four-game series sweep to open NSAA play against Viterbo University.
Jurek, who was named the NSAA Pitcher of the Week last week, batted .600 on the week, going 9-for-15 at the plate with three doubles, three home runs, eight runs scored, and 10 RBIs. She recorded an impressive 1.400 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage in the five wins.
During the Viterbo series, Jurek reached base safely in 11 consecutive at-bats. She is currently second on the team with a .500 batting average, nine doubles, and five home runs.
Jurek also picked up a win in the circle, allowing just one run and five hits with four strikeouts in BU's 6-1 victory over Viterbo in the series finale.
Cunningham went 2-0 on the week, compiling a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings pitched. She did not give up an earned run or an extra-base hit while registering 15 strikeouts in the two victories, a 6-4 win over College of St. Mary and an 11-1 victory over Viterbo.
Cunningham currently has a 5-5 record with a team-leading 55 strikeouts in 53.1 innings pitched.
The Bruins will travel across town to Omaha on Wednesday, Mar. 30, for a single non-conference contest at College of St. Mary beginning at 4 p.m.
