Bruins fall to Dakota State, 3-2, at NSAA Tournament

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The Bellevue University softball team opened the North Star Athletic Association Tournament with a 3-2 loss to Dakota State University, dropping the Bruins to the loser's bracket of the tournament.
The fourth-seeded Bruins (31-22) will face eighth-seeded Mayville State in an elimination game at approximately 2:30 p.m. today.
Bellevue outhit DSU, 9-7, and was led at the plate by Grace Glotfelty and Randi Henry, who each produced two hits and an RBI.
The Trojans loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the second but managed just one run on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Anna Kosman, giving DSU a 1-0 lead.
Glotfelty's solo homer to center field tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning.
DSU scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI single down the left-field line by Jasmin Lucero and on an RBI double to left field by Taylor Poe, giving the Trojans a 3-1 advantage.
The Bruins responded in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring on an RBI single to shallow center field by Henry to slice the deficit to 3-2.
Singles by Kayla Young and Glotfelty put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the seventh. but DSU starter Xitali Lopez forced two pop-ups to secure the 3-2 win for the Trojans.
Erin Sharpe (16-6) was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Lopez (10-7) earned the win, scattering nine hits with one walk and two strikeouts in seven innings in the circle.
