Bellevue places six on Men's Soccer all-CAC teams
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The Bellevue University men's soccer team saw three players earn First Team All-Continental Athletic Conference honors and three more take home Second Team All-CAC recognition on Friday when the CAC announced its postseason honors.
Earning first team all-CAC honors for the Bruins were junior defender Buster Honeywood (Kessingland, England), junior midfielder Juan Lagares (Huelva, Spain), and junior forward Adam Sherwood (Lowestoft, England).
Honeywood has been Bellevue's top defender for the second-straight season, helping BU continue to be one of the nation's strongest defenses. He has anchored a unit that allows just 1.28 goals and 5.1 shots on goal per game. He has also been dangerous on the receiving end of set pieces as a big target in the box, scoring three goals and three assists while pushing forward.
Lagares has been a key playmaker in the Bruins' attack this season. He is tied with teammate Okan Erkocu and several others for fourth in the CAC with six assists. Additionally, he has contributed a pair of goals, including the game-winner against Dakota Wesleyan, and is one of four Bruins with 10 or more points on the year.
Sherwood, in his first year at BU after transferring from LSU Alexandria, ranks fifth in the CAC with 10 goals scored on the season, while his four game-winning strikes share top honors with six others. He has added a pair of assists for 22 total points, which ranks sixth in the CAC. He has scored in eight separate games, with his game-winners coming against Briar Cliff, Oklahoma City, Benedictine, and at Columbia.
Taking home second team all-CAC awards for BU were sophomore goalkeeper Kaden Simpson (Omaha, Neb.), junior midfielder Okan Erkocu (Kiel, Germany), and sophomore forward Jeremiah Hteh (Omaha, Neb.).
Simpson has played the vast majority of the time in goal for Bellevue, appearing in 17 of 18 games this season. He ranks second in the CAC with 63 saves and fifth with a .733 save percentage. He has posted seven of BU's eight shutouts on the year to go with a strong 1.35 goals against average.
Erkocu has been another important playmaker, providing offensive threats with his set-piece ability. He is tied with teammate Juan Lagares, along with several others, for fourth in the CAC with six assists and has added a pair of goals, totaling 10 points on the year. His goal against Concordia – his former school – was the only goal of the contest and his lone game-winner of the season.
Hteh has built a strong freshman campaign, backing up his performance from a year ago with another strong showing in 2025. He had bagged six goals, which ranks second on the team to Sherwood, and one assist for 13 total points. He provided the game-winner in the season-opening triumph over Doane.
Jona Fischer was BU's representative as the NAIA Champion of Character honoree.
The Bruins completed the regular season with a 10-7-1 overall mark and earned the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament, which kicks off Friday. BU begins its postseason journey on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. against the winner of today's match between Florida National University and Hesston College.
