BELLEVUE, Neb. — The No. 24-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team capped off its regular season with a 3–2 Senior Night victory over Dakota Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at the Renner Dennis Outdoor Athletic Complex. The Bruins honored five seniors — Jonathan Henkhaus, Andres Valencia, Alvaro Jacinto, Kyi Nicholson, and Buster Honeywood — prior to kickoff before delivering a strong second-half performance to improve to 10-7-1 on the season. DWU fell to 7-9-1 with the loss.
After a scoreless opening half, BU erupted for three goals in the final 45 minutes.
Okan Erkocu opened the scoring in the 47th minute, converting from the penalty spot for his second goal of the season. Adam Sherwood doubled the advantage just six minutes later, finishing a setup from Jacinto inside the box for his team-leading 10th goal of the year.
Dakota Wesleyan responded midway through the half, pulling within one on a long-range strike from AJ Bowman in the 58th minute and later equalizing in the 64th when Coben Colson scored off an assist from Lewis Cunningham.
Bellevue regrouped late, and Juan Lagares delivered the decisive goal in the 88th minute, tucking home a pass from Yoskar Galvan-Mercad to seal the 3–2 result for the Bruins.
The Bruins outshot DWU 11–9, including a 6–4 edge in shots on goal, while each team recorded two corner kicks. Goalkeeper Kaden Simpson earned the win with four saves over 90 minutes in net.
With the victory, Bellevue closed its home schedule on a high note and will now turn its attention to postseason play.
Up Next: The Bruins will travel to Lawrenceville, Ga., to compete in the Continental Athletic Conference Tournament on Nov. 7–9.
