SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- The 11th-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to Dordt University on Saturday afternoon at the Defender Soccer Complex. With the loss, the Bruins moved to 7-6-1 on the season, while the Defenders improved to 4-4-3.
Bellevue got off to a strong start when Jeremiah Hteh scored his fifth goal of the season in the 13th minute to give the Bruins an early lead. Hteh's goal came off a rebound from an Adam Sherwood shot that was stopped by DU goalkeeper Shad Jaeger, with Hteh cleaning up the loose ball from about 10 feet out in the box.
Dordt leveled the match early in the second half when Trigve Elkins scored off a pass from Stephen Schreurs in the 57th minute. The Defenders then took control behind a pair of penalty kick goals from Anton Forsch in the 64th and 66th minutes, coming moments before Bellevue went down a man following a red card to Jeronimo Zelaya Diaz. Dordt extended its lead to 4-1 when Tyson Reitsma found the net in the 68th minute.
The Bruins battled back late as Kyi Nicholson scored in the 87th minute on a feed from Okan Erkocu to cut the deficit to 4-2. Dordt outshot Bellevue 16-15, while shots on goal were even at 11-11. DU goalkeeper Shad Jaeger made eight saves to help preserve the home victory.
Goalkeeper Kaden Simpson finished with six saves for Bellevue, including a pair of stops in the opening half to keep the Bruins in front early.
The Bruins return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they host Benedictine (Kan.) College at 7:30 p.m. at the Renner Dennis Outdoor Athletic Complex.
