HIALEAH, Fla. -- Despite rallying from a two-goal deficit, the Bellevue University men's soccer team fell 3-2 to Florida National University on Saturday.
The loss drops the Bruins to 7-4-1 on the season while FNU improves to 4-1-3 with the victory.
Diego Lozano opened the scoring just 96 seconds in the match off a feed from Fabio Zandona to give the Conquistadors the early advantage.
Filipe Ribeiro doubled the FNU lead with his 14th minute strike as Florida National took that advantage into halftime.
FNU out-shot Bellevue 6-4 in the first half and 3-0 on goal.
Bellevue scored twice, less than a minute apart, with Buster Honeywood and Adam Sherwood each tallying strikes. Honeywood netted his third goal of the year off an assist from Juan Lagares in the 64th minute and Sherwood scored, unassisted, 54 seconds later in the 65th.
The score remained level when Ribeiro struck of the second time off a pass from Christian Hernandez in the 80th minute.
Bellevue out-shot FNU, 12-10 in the match though the Conquistadors out-shot BU 6-5 on goal.
Kaden Simpson finished with three saves in goal for Bellevue and Vitor Caetano matched his with three saves of his own.
Bellevue returns home on Wednesday, Oct. 1 when they host Midland University for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
