Bruins top Warner Pacific for first win of 2015

DENVER, Colo. -- The Bellevue University men's soccer team, behind their second consecutive clean sheet, topped Warner Pacific, 1-0, on Thursday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Bellevue started the second half strong when senior Tobias Maertzke opened the scoring for BU in the 48^th minute. Maertzke settled a pass from junior Lee Woolmore with his chest before volleying home his first goal of the season from the top of the 18-yard box.

The Bruins dominated the stat sheet in the opening 45 minutes, gaining six shots – including three on goal – while holding the Knights without an attempt. Bellevue also collected six corners without conceding any. Despite the score sheet dominance, the Bruins were not able to put a goal past keeper Joe White, the game headed to intermission scoreless.

For the match, the Bruins held a 16-1 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. The match saw a modest 16 fouls called, eight against Bellevue. Senior Jamie Henderson led the Bruins with three shots on the afternoon, including putting two on target.

With their second consecutive clean sheet Bellevue has extended their regular season shutout streak to over 351 minutes, including having not conceded a goal in 200 minutes of play this season.

The game was delayed for an hour at halftime, due to weather.

Bellevue (1-0-1) is back on the pitch Saturday, Aug. 29 with a 4:30 p.m. match against Johnson & Wales University.
