Men’s soccer inks Plattsmouth High’s Krug
BU men's soccer coach Matt Briggs has announced the program's first 2015 signing
BELLEVUE, Neb. - The Bellevue University men's soccer program, under head coach Matt Briggs, has announced the signing of Jacob Krug (Plattsmouth, Neb./Plattsmouth HS) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2015.
The son of Jody and Tina, Krug was coached by Dennis Beckmann at Plattsmouth High School where he has been a two-year starter as a central midfielder.
Last season, as a junior, he tallied nine goals and four assists (22 points) and now has 14 goals and seven assists for a total of 35 points for his career.
Krug, who has also run cross country at Plattsmouth High School, is a two-time all-conference selection and offensive MVP. Last season, as a junior, he was named a team captain and received Honorable Mention All-State consideration.
Krug played club soccer for current Bellevue head coach Matt Briggs for 402 Evolution and is Bellevue's first signee in the 2015 recruiting class.
"We are delighted to have signed Jacob to play at Bellevue next fall," said Briggs. "Jacob is a player I have worked with for close to five years through club soccer and I have seen him develop into a fantastic player. He has many qualities that we look for; he is neat and tidy technically, has a great engine and covers a lot of ground, he works incredibly hard, and is just a wonderful young man to be around. We couldn't be happier to sign a player of such quality from so close to Bellevue."
The Bruins currently hold an 8-2-1 record and are ranked No. 20 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll. They will resume playing when they travel to McPherson, Kan. and take on Central Christian College on Wednesday, Oct. 15 in a 5:00 p.m. match to open their MCAC slate.
