Bio
Rob Brown has been the architect of Bellevue University men's golf since the program’s inception, building the Bruins into a perennial national contender since taking the helm as the program’s first head coach in 2010. Under his leadership, Bellevue officially began varsity competition in 2011-12 and has since qualified for 12 NAIA National Tournaments while capturing 12 conference championships. Brown has been recognized with 12 Conference Coach of the Year honors throughout his tenure.
Most recently, Brown led the 2024-25 Bruins to a seventh-place finish at the NAIA National Championship — the fifth top-10 national finish in program history. That followed a 23rd-place showing in 2024, as BU remained a fixture on the national stage.
In 2022-23, Brown guided Bellevue to a sixth-place national finish, just one year after delivering the program’s best-ever result — third place at the 2022 NAIA National Championship. That 2021-22 team also claimed its ninth conference title, continuing Brown’s run of dominance in league play.
The 2023 season also featured the best individual performance in BU men's golf history, as Hugo Ronnberg finished as national runner-up after falling in a playoff at the NAIA Championship.
Over his tenure, Brown has coached 15 NAIA All-Americans and helped elevate Bellevue into one of the nation’s most consistent small-college programs. His 2020-21 squad claimed a school-record eight tournament titles, capping the year with a seventh-place national finish.
Even in shortened or transitional seasons, Brown’s teams have made an impact. In the COVID-affected 2019-20 season, the Bruins finished the year ranked No. 12 in the final NAIA Coaches’ Poll, a significant jump from their preseason ranking of No. 21. That team won the NAIA Midwest Invitational and finished second at the U.C. Ferguson Classic.
Between 2012 and 2019, Brown’s Bruins were a staple at Nationals, making seven appearances in eight years while claiming multiple regular-season and conference championships. That run included a fifth-place national finish in 2013 — a program-best at the time — along with eight team tournament titles during the 2012-13 season alone.
In their very first varsity season (2011-12), Brown immediately made an impression, guiding Bellevue to a conference championship and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
A native of Omaha, Brown brought nearly 40 years of professional golf experience to Bellevue. Before joining the Bruins, he taught golf in South America and worked alongside PGA legend Al Geiberger. His career also includes head professional and director roles at some of the country’s top clubs, including Wakonda Club (Des Moines, 1993-2004), Minikahda Club (Minneapolis, 1978-1989), and Stone Eagle Golf Club (Palm Desert, Calif., 2005-2009).
An accomplished competitor, Brown won the 1995 Iowa State Open and was named Iowa Senior Player of the Year the same season. He is a five-time Iowa PGA Senior Champion, a 2008 Nebraska Senior PGA Champion, and qualified for both the 1997 U.S. Senior Open and the 1996 PGA Senior Championship.
Rob and his wife, Ann (Thompson), reside in Omaha.
