Bruins sit tied for seventh at Midwest National Spring Invite
MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Navigating the first 36 holes of the 54-hole Midwest National Spring Invite, the Bellevue University men's golf team finished Monday's opening day tied for seventh place, anchored by a steady top-10 performance from Randy Christiansen and an afternoon surge by Dylan Rodgers.
The Bruins carded a 36-hole team total of 600 (+24) at the 7,049-yard, par-72 Colbert Hills Golf Course. Bellevue currently shares the seventh-place spot with Northwestern (Iowa) in the 10-team field.
Hastings leads the event at 1-under par, holding an eight-stroke advantage over second-place Missouri Valley (+7). Grand View (+14) occupies third, while Kansas Wesleyan (+15), Morningside (+22), and Sterling (+22) round out the top six.
At the top of the individual leaderboard, Missouri Valley's Felipe Suarez controls the pace after shooting an 8-under par across his two rounds. His teammate Joaquin Raminger sits in second at 5-under par, followed by Hastings' Blake Eddy in third at 2-under par.
Christiansen led the way for the Bruins, finishing the opening day tied for eighth place at 2-over par. He opened with an even-par 72 featuring 14 pars, dropping strokes on the 600-yard, par-5 10th and 495-yard, par-5 16th holes. He followed with a 74 in the afternoon, finding red numbers on the 185-yard, par-3 eighth, the 495-yard, par-5 16th, and the 214-yard, par-3 17th holes.
Rodgers vaulted up the leaderboard to tie for 16th place at 4-over par. Rebounding from an opening-round 77 where he sank his lone birdie on the 559-yard, par-5 seventh hole, Rodgers fired a 1-under 71 in the afternoon. His second round was highlighted by four under-par scores, taking advantage of the 374-yard, par-4 second, the 365-yard, par-4 15th, the 559-yard, par-5 seventh, and the 495-yard, par-5 16th holes.
Ludwig Klingspor shares 28th place at 9-over par. He opened with a 75, circling numbers on his scorecard at the 177-yard, par-3 fifth, the 201-yard, par-3 11th, the 452-yard, par-4 14th, the 495-yard, par-5 16th, and the 214-yard, par-3 17th holes. He added a 78 in the afternoon round, scoring a birdie on the 600-yard, par-5 10th hole.
Thomas Gatlin is also tied for 28th at 9-over par. He matched Christiansen with an even-par 72 in the morning round, tallying 12 pars and converting birdie putts on the 344-yard, par-4 13th, the 365-yard, par-4 15th, and the 495-yard, par-5 16th holes. He carded an 81 in round two, registering a birdie on the 495-yard, par-5 16th hole.
Martin Hempston rounded out the lineup and sits tied for 47th place at 17-over par. His opening-round 77 featured 12 pars and a pair of birdies on the 177-yard, par-3 fifth and the 185-yard, par-3 eighth holes. He added an 84 in the afternoon, sinking a birdie putt on the 344-yard, par-4 13th hole.
