Gatlin earns Frontier Men's Golfer of the Week honors
HELENA, Mont. -- Bellevue University's Thomas Gatlin (Lincoln, Neb.) has been named the Frontier Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced today. This marks the fourth time in his Bruin career that he has earned a weekly conference honor, having previously collected the award three times in the North Star Athletic Association last season.
Gatlin led the Bruins at the 54-hole Battle at Laughlin Ranch, securing a fifth-place finish in a deep field of 100 golfers. Navigating the 7,055-yard, par-72 Laughlin Ranch Golf Club, he carded rounds of 73, 69, and 75 to finish the tournament at 1-over par.
He opened the event with a 73, highlighted by a 1-under-par back nine that featured birdies on holes 11 and 12 and an eagle on the 16th. In the second round, Gatlin fired a 3-under-par 69, playing a flawless 3-under front nine and an even-par back nine while sinking four birdies (1, 4, 8, 16). He capped off the tournament with a 75 in the final round, adding three more birdies to his scorecard.
Gatlin's top-five performance helped guide Bellevue to a 14th-place team finish in a challenging 20-team field that featured 10 nationally ranked programs.
Up Next: The Bruins will travel to Manhattan, Kan., on April 6-7 to compete in the Midwest National Spring Invitational at Colbert Hills Golf Course.
