Bellevue finishes seventh at Kona Ice Keiser Kup
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team shot a 308 in Tuesday's final round, finishing in seventh place overall at the Kona Ice Keiser Kup.
The 54-hole tournament was hosted by Keiser University at the 6,813-yard, par-71 Okeeheelee Golf Course.
The Bruins, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA coaches' poll, followed up rounds of 300 and 295 with a final-round 308 (+24) to secure seventh place in the 11-team field with a three-round total of 903 (+51). Bellevue successfully held off No. 8-ranked Ave Maria (904, +52) by a single stroke to claim the seventh spot.
Top-ranked host Keiser captured the team title on its home course, shooting a 1-under par 851 (281-287-283) to win by 18 strokes over No. 18 Texas Wesleyan (869, +17). Palm Beach State finished in third place at 879 (+27), while Adelphi and Keiser's "B" team tied for fourth at 882 (+30).
At the top of the individual leaderboard, Keiser's Iver Sokhan-Sanj claimed the individual title, finishing at 4-under par after shooting an even-par 71 on Tuesday to pair with his earlier rounds of 67 and 71. His teammate, Yann Ferrando, finished as the runner-up at 2-under par, while Texas Wesleyan's Yevgeniy Ryu secured third place at even par.
Dylan Rodgers led the Bruins and secured a tie for 11th place overall at 8-over par (221). He closed his tournament with a very steady final round, shooting a 2-over 73 on Tuesday. He recorded 14 pars and secured a birdie on the 549-yard, par-5 15th hole.
Kyle Dale and Randy Christiansen both tied for 33rd place at 13-over par (226). Dale bounced back from a tough front nine on Tuesday to shoot an even-par 36 on the back, highlighted by a birdie on the 419-yard, par-4 12th hole, finishing with a 76 and 11 pars. Christiansen tallied 10 pars in his final round and finished strong with a pair of birdies on the back nine, converting on the 15th hole and the 355-yard, par-4 17th hole to shoot a 77.
Thomas Gatlin tied for 42nd place at 17-over par (230) after shooting an 82 in the final round. He secured seven pars and carded a birdie on the 200-yard, par-3 seventh hole.
Ludwig Klingspor rounded out the lineup in 63rd place at 245 (+32), recording nine pars on his way to a final-round 82.
