Bellevue takes third at Beartooth Invite
LAUREL, Mont. -- Thomas Gatlin was the top individual finisher for the Bellevue University men's golf team as the Bruins took home a third place finish at the Beartooth Invitational.
Host Rocky Mountain College topped the field at the 6,923-yard, par 72 Laurel Golf Club, posting a team score of 841, good for 23-under par. The Battlin' Bears defeated second place Lewis-Clark State (-8, 856) by 15 strokes while Bellevue finished third at 19-over (883).
Rocky's Jared Smith and LC State's Andrea Artusini tied atop the leaderboard at 9-under through 54 holes, setting up a playoff for the individual title.
Gatlin fired a 3-over 75 on the day to finish the tournament at 4-over in a tie for 10th place. He made a pair of birdies, doing so on the par 3 No. 3 and the par 5 No. 11 and had just four holes he didn't make par on.
Kyle Dale tied for 17th place at 8-over following a 6-over final round 78. He made par on 13 of 18 holes and added four bogeys on the day.
Ludwig Klingspor finished at 9-over following a 4-over final round to move up to 19th place overall. He posted birdies on both the par 5 No. 9 and the par 4 No. 14.
Randy Christiansen tied for 23rd overall with a three-round score of 12-over after posting an 84 on Tuesday.
The Bruins return to the links next week at the Flyer Intercollegiate, hosted by Lewis University on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 6-7 in Lemont, Ill. at Cog hill Golf & Country Club.
