Klingspor paces BU on first day of Mid-South Classic
NEWTON, Kan. -- Ludwig Klingspor finds himself second overall following two rounds of play and the Bellevue University men's golf team standings in fourth place after Day One of The Mid-South Classic.
The tournament is being hosted by Grand View University and held at the 6,872-yard, par 72 Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
Ludwig Klingspor was Bellevue's top golfer on the day, shooting 2-under (142) and is currently in second place overall. He posted the low round of the day for Bellevue with a 2-under 70 in the second round that featured a trio of birdies.
Dylan Rodgers is in 13th place at 1-over, Randy Christiansen is 19th overall at 2-over, Kyle Dale is 26th at 3-over. Christiansen posted a team-best five birdie second round to finish even while Rodgers recorded the lone eagle of the day for BU on his way to a 1-over second round.
Dale and Thomas Gatlin, 55th in the 107-golfer field, each made a pair of birdies during the second round.
No. 5-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University holds a 5-stroke lead over second place and No. 10-ranked Friends University. The Pioneers are 7-under (569) through two rounds of play while the Falcons are 2-under (574). Rounding out the top five are Nebraska Wesleyan University (E, 576), Bellevue University (+4, 580) and No. 23 Science & Arts (+8, 584).
Klingspor, Rodgers, and Dale all posted even-par first round scores 72 as the Bruins shot 2-over as a team through 18 holes. Christiansen was the fourth Bruin scorer and turned in a 2-over 74 in the first round.
MNU's Josh Killingsworth holds a commanding 7-stoke lead at 9-under after shooting 2-under (70) and 7-under (65) on the day. Six golfers, including Klingspor, are tied for second at 2-under.
Emilio Morales (+12) and Martin Hempston (+15) competed as individuals and are currently 66th and 72nd, respectively.
The tournament concludes with third round play tomorrow morning.
