Herrera wins individual crown; BU finishes fourth overall

PRIMM VALLEY, Nev. -- Nicolas Herrera won a three-way playoff to help lead the Bellevue University men's golf team to a fourth place finish at the Battle at Primm at the Primm Valley Golf Club on Tuesday.
A native of Cali, Colombia, Herrera recorded a birdie in the playoff hole to claim the individual title over James Marchesani (Oklahoma City) and Felix Aberg of Northwood (Fla.).
Herrera finished the Battle at Primm with a seven-under-par score of 209. He has now won two tournaments this season after finishing in a tie for first place at the Ashford Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
Jose Vega tied for 15th overall after firing a one-over-par 73 in the final round. He finished with scores of 73-69-73--215 (-1).
Other Bruin golfers included Tomas Ovejero (76-74-77--227) and Enrique Jaramillo (79-72-79--230) while Mike Hannon tallied his best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 72 to finish with a total score 235.
Oklahoma City University won the 18-team tournament title by six strokes with a three-round total of 850 (-14). The Bruins finished with a team score of 870.
The BU men's golf team will return to action on April 7-8 when they compete in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Okla.
