Brown hired as Bruins' first golf coach
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University Athletic Director Ed Lehotak announced today the hiring of Rob Brown as the school's first men's and women's head golf coach. Bellevue's inaugural men's and women's golf seasons will begin in the fall of 2011.
A native of Omaha, Brown has taught golf and been a golf professional for nearly 40 years. He spent the past year teaching golf in South America and working with PGA great Al Gieberger.
Brown was the director and head golf professional at Wakonda Club in Des Moines from 1993-2004. He served the same role at Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Minn. from 1978-1989.
Most recently, Brown served as the Director of Instruction at Stone Eagle Golf Club in Palm Desert, Calif. from 2005-2009.
"I look forward to building the golf programs at Bellevue University and including golf as part of the great winning traditions Bellevue has established in all of its sports," said Brown.
An accomplished golfer, Brown was the 2008 Nebraska Senior PGA champion. He qualified for the 1997 U.S. Senior Open and the 1996 PGA Senior Championship. Brown was a five-time Iowa PGA Senior champion. He captured the 1995 Iowa State Open and was named the 1995 Iowa Senior Player of the Year.
Brown is married to the former Ann Thompson. The couple resides in Omaha.
Brown will begin his duties on June 15 at which time he will begin recruiting for the Bruins' inaugural men's and women's teams and formulating the 2010-11 season schedules for each team.
