BU dispatches Ozark Christian, 117-53
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's basketball team recorded their highest point total since 2016 defeated Ozark Christian College 117-53 on Friday evening in the 2025 Fairfield Inn & Suites Downtown Classic
With the victory, Bellevue ups their record to 4-0, their best start under head coach Lucas Gabriel. The loss drops Ozark Christian to 0-2 on the season.
The 117 points scored by the Bruins are the most since putting up 119 against Oglala Lakota College (Jan. 14, 2016) and the most they've scored under coach Gabriel, eclipsing the previous high of 110 in his head coaching debut against Baptist Bible (Oct. 18, 2019).
Bellevue scored the first 11 points of the game and never looked threatened on the night, leading by as many as 38 points in the first half.
Ahamad Bynum paced four Bruins in double figures with 19 points on 7-10 shooting, including a 5-7 effort from long range as 14 of 15 Bruins to appear in the game recorded points. Joining him in double figures were Jake Lenagh and Jaden Phillips with 14 apiece and JJ Montgomery who tossed in 13. Lenagh finished a rebound shy of a double-double – his nine boards representing a career- and game-high.
Bellevue dominated the glass, out-rebounding Ozark Christian 44-23 and won the turnover battle 15 to 24.
The Bruins shot 61% from the floor and drained 18 three-pointers on 49% shooting from deep, dishing out 23 assists on 42 made field goals. Bellevue's 16 steals are good for fourth all-time in a single game and their 18 treys are good for fifth.
Carter Brown was the lone Ambassador in double figures, finishing with 10 points on 5-10 shooting. Eric Dillinger, Kobe Bailey, and Ty Cloud each chipped in eight.
Bellevue is back in action tomorrow with a 7 p.m. tip against Mission University.
