King nets back-to-back NSAA Player of the Week honors
Jemeil King has been named the NSAA Player of the Week for the second week in a row after leading BU to a 19-point comeback win over NAIA Division I No. 3 Wayland Baptist.
MADISON, S.D. -- For the second-straight week, Bellevue University junior Jemeil King (Oakland, Calif.) has been named the North Star Athletic Association's Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
King, last week's NSAA Player of the Week honoree, led the Bruins to a 1-1 week at the Waldorf Classic that included a thrilling upset victory over NAIA Division I No. 3-ranked Wayland Baptist that saw the Bruins trail by as many as 19 points in the second half.
He averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game in BU's two contests last week while shooting 45.8 percent from the floor. Additionally, King was 6-of-10 from deep and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
After an 11-point, 5-rebound, 6-assist performance against (D1-RV) Hope International, King scored 22 points and pulled down six boards in the Bruins' upset win over Wayland Baptist. Working with eight first half points, King led Bellevue back from a 19-point deficit by scoring 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a 3-of-4 effort from deep in the second half.
For the season, King leads the Bruins in scoring (15.7 PPG), rebounding (6.3 RPG), and assists (35). On the year, he is firing at a 46.7 percent clip from the floor, 41.7 percent from deep, and 71.4 percent from the line.
Bellevue now stands at 4-3 overall and will be back in action with a pair of games this weekend at the Viterbo University Invitational. The Bruins face No. 24-ranked Saint Francis on Friday at 5 p.m. and Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday at 2 p.m.
