Northwestern hands Bellevue, 81-73, loss

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Walker Seim and Daniel Van Kalsbeek combined for 57 points and 24 rebounds as Northwern (Iowa) College defeated Bellevue University, 81-73, in the Dordt Defender Gold Classic Friday evening at DeWitt Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Bruins fell to 3-5 on the season. Northwestern improved to 5-3 with their fifth-straight victory.
Junior \#Avery Tyler\# and senior \#Antoine Dade\# both scored 14 points to pace the Bruin offense. Dade added a team-high eight rebounds. Junior \#Aaryon Williams\# was the third Bruin in double figures with 10 points.
Bellevue shot just 31 percent in the first half as the Raiders went on a 15-2 run early in the opening period to build a 10-point advantage (17-7) at the 14:42 mark.
Northwestern led by as many as 15 points before the Bruins' 24-12 spurt capped by a \#Jace Fredenburg\# 3-pointer closed the gap to three points at 38-35 with just over one minute remaining before halftime.
A Van Kalsbeek jumper gave NWC a 40-35 halftime lead.
The two teams traded baskets for the majority of the second half, with the Bruins closing the gap to four points on three separate occasions and Northwestern never gaining more than a nine-point advantage.
The Raiders sank seven free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
The Bruins will conclude action in the tournament tomorrow afternoon when they battle the host school, Dordt, at 4 p.m.
