Monlux feted by ABCA/ATEC with regional honor
Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux was one of 10 NAIA Coaches selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association and ATEC as a Regional Coach of the Year.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux was one of 10 NAIA Coaches selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association and ATEC as a Regional Coach of the Year.
Members of the ABCA All-America & Coach of the Year committees select the ABCA/ATEC National and Regional Coaches of the year.
This year, the ABCA along with ATEC recognized 91 coaches across numerous divisions as Regional Coaches of the Year with 11 also collecting National Coach of the Year honors at their level. The Divisions in which recipients were selected included all three NCAA Divisions, NAIA, all three NJCAA levels, the Pacific Association Division, and three high school divisions.
This is coach Monlux's sixth ABCA-affiliated NAIA Regional Coach of the Year honor. He was twice recognized during his time at Dickinson State (2006, 2007) and previously honored in 2016, 2019, and 2022 with Bellevue.
Monlux guided BU to a 48-10 mark this season while going 25-3 in North Star play, winning both the NSAA Regular-Season and Tournament titles, collecting his 500th at the Bruin helm with a victory over St. Thomas back in March. Bellevue hosted, and won, the Opening Round - Bellevue Bracket advancing to the Avista NAIA World Series for the third time in the last four seasons and 16th time in program history.
Additionally, two Bruins – Kanta Kobayashi and Dustin Schorie – earned Honorable Mention NAIA All-America distinction with Kobayashi also collecting NSAA Player of the Year recognition.
Since his arrival at Bellevue prior to the 2011 season, Monlux has steered his teams to a 540-199-3 overall record (.730). His teams have won eight regular-season conference championships, seven conference tournaments, hosted five NAIA Opening Rounds, and advanced to the Avista NAIA World Series four times.
Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since the initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine Divisions; NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
