Right-hander Russell Rockwell (Ft. Saskatchewan, Alta./Northeastern JC) has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball and academic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Russell Rockwell (Ft. Saskatchewan, Alta./Northeastern JC) to a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball and academic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.
Rockwell comes to Bellevue from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. In his two seasons with the Plainsmen Rockwell, a right-handed reliever appeared in 18 games. He posted a 4-0 record to accompany a 3.29 ERA in 35.2 innings of work. He struck out 36 batters and issued 18 walks in his career.
From his freshman to sophomore seasons Rockwell cut his ERA nearly in half while almost doubling his workload. He struck out 25 batters in 22.1 innings in 2017 (10.07 SO/9) an issued just 10 walks while going 2-0 with a save.
Coach Monlux on Rockwell:
"Russell is a kid that is a little bit older that should give us some veteran leadership this season on our pitching staff. He has a good fastball and has the ability to strike people out. He contributed key innings out of the bullpen for Northeastern Junior College during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. We are excited he has decided to become a Bruin."
Rockwell joins previously announced signees Hunter Jury (C; Davis, Calif.), Colton Walker (RHP; Goldendale, Wash.), Anthony Alvarado (LHP; Wapato, Wash.), Cody Banks (3B; Duvall, Wash.), Derek Browne (RHP; Maple Valley, Wash.), Wataru Kazama (SS/2B; Tokyo, Japan), Jarrett Poh (LHP; Varina, Va.), Daniel Teasley (OF; Rio Dell, Calif.), Jesus Jimenez (IF; South San Francisco, Calif.), Tommy Hansen (OF; Genoa, Ill.), and Graham Cahill (RHP; Omaha, Neb.) in the Bruins 2018 recruiting class.
Bellevue wrapped up the 2018 season with a 38-23 overall record (17-5 NSAA) and won their second North Star Tournament in the last three seasons. The Bruins earned their eighth-straight NAIA Opening Round bid and 21st NAIA National Tournament Appearance in the program's storied history.
