York edges Bellevue, 3-0, in MCAC title game

OMAHA, Neb. -- York College blanked the 25th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team, 3-0, in the championship game of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Friday afternoon at Westgate Field.
The Panthers (38-17) earned the automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round, May 10-14 while the Bruins (39-19) will have to wait for their postseason fate until Sunday, May 6 when the NAIA announces the 46 qualifiers for the National Tournament.
The Panthers took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning, scoring on an infield bunt single by Zach Garcia that plated Josh Nuyten who doubled.
YC added to its lead on a two-out two-run home run by Brett Nathan in the seventh inning.
Junior Carrizoza picked up the win for the Panthers, scattering seven hits in seven innings of work. Gene Felise earned his fourth save of the season, striking out all three Bruins in the ninth. Eric Locke took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched.
