BU swept by Oklahoma Wesleyan

OMAHA, Neb. -- After yesterday's opening game was suspended at the end of the sixth inning due to a rainstorm in the Omaha area, the Bellevue University baseball team was swept by Oklahoma Wesleyan University by a pair of 5-4 scores in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Westgate Field in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Oklahoma Wesleyan improved to 27-18 and 6-6 in the MCAC while Bellevue dropped to 28-16 and 9-3 in league action.
The Bruins will host Doane College at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 in non-conference play. BU defeated the Tigers 6-5 on April 2 in Crete.
Game 1 - Oklahoma Wesleyan 5, Bellevue 4
The Eagles scored three runs in the seventh inning en route to a 5-4 comeback win in the opener.
The first two batters for the Eagles singled to open the game as they took an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly to left field by Josh Davis.
Tanner Moore's two-run double and Lance Lutz' RBI single highlighted the third inning as the Bruins took a 3-1 lead.
OWU cut BU's lead in half with a run in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice by Davis that allowed Cory Ford to score from third who reached base on a Bruin error to begin the inning.
The Bruins answered back in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Mason Castillon stole third base and the ball got away from the Eagles' third baseman that allowed Castillon to score to give BU a 4-2 lead before heavy rain caused the game to be suspended.
OWU regained the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits. The Eagles recorded their first run of the frame on a wild pitch before Ford blasted a two-run doubled to center field.
With the tying run on third and two outs in the final inning, OWU's first basemen Jerett Hardy made a diving stop to retire Sean Mattson to preserve the 5-4 win.
BU starting pitcher Grant Mason allowed three hits and two walks with one strikeout in six innings of work while the Eagles' Casey Sheline (2-2) gave up seven hits and two earned runs. Robert Carrasquillo (1-1) took the loss allowing three runs on three hits in relief. Dustin Phelps pitched three innings out of the bullpen to earn his first save of the season.

Nick Palese's two-out double in the top of the ninth proved to be the difference as the Eagles posted a 5-4 win in the series finale.

The Bruins scored all four of their runs in the seventh inning. Tylor Pavel put BU on the scoreboard with a two-run double before Moore blasted his sixth home run of the season over the left field fence to tie the contest at 4-4 and send the game into extra innings.
Trevor Cook (8-2) allowed nine hits and four strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work while Phelps earned his second save of the day. Robert Greco (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing five hits and one run in relief of BU starter Bradley Reeves.
OWU outhit BU 14-9 as the Bruins were plagued by four errors.
