Former Bruin Johnson signs with Class A Greenville
Former Bruin All-American center fielder Matty Johnson has signed a professional contract with the Class A Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League. Johnson was previously in the Extended Spring Training (XST) program.
Greenville is a farm team for the Boston Red Sox organization.
Johnson's contract was purchased from Gateway of the Frontier League when he was signed to a minor league deal in Sept. 2010.
Johnson earned second team NAIA All-American honors in 2010 and was a two-time first team all-MCAC selection as well as a member of the MCAC Gold Glove team. He led the 2010 Bruins with a .427 batting average and 26 stolen bases.
