Bruins sweep MVC, 13-3, 10-0 in IHOP Invite

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University baseball team swept visiting Missouri Valley College, 13-3, 10-0 in the modified IHOP Easter Invitational Friday afternoon at Westgate Park to improve to 23-17 on the season. The Bruins have now won six-straight games.
The Bruins will conclude the tournament on Saturday with a 12 p.m. matchup against Missouri Valley and a 5 p.m. contest against William Penn University. Missouri Valley and William Penn will meet at 2:30.
Bellevue's four seniors - Mike Andrick, Jake Aylward, Anthony Bazant, and Francisco Rosario will all be honored before Saturday's 5 p.m. game as part of Senior Appreciation Night.
Game 1
Hector Morales and Junior Martinez both went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Bruin offense to the 10-3 win in the opener. Bellevue pounded out 16 total hits as 10 different Bruins collected hits in the victory.
Consecutive two-run doubles by Morales and Martinez fueled a five-run second inning for the Bruins.
Morales and Martinez both drove in runs again in the third as BU pushed the lead to 8-0.
The Vikings cut the deficit to 8-2 with a two-run single by Josh Hartin in the top of the fifth frame.
Bellevue responded with a two-run single by Bazant in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead back to eight runs at 10-2.
MVC added a run in the sixth on an RBI double by Sebastian Salas.
Three-straight RBI singles from pinch hitters Brent Jackson, Sean Mattson, and Jeremy Camacho ended the game at 13-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Andrick (7-3) picked up his seventh win of the season, scattering eight hits with six strikeouts.

Eric Locke tossed a no-hitter, Bazant drove in five runs, and the Bruins scored runs in every inning to collect the 10-0 shutout in the nightcap.
Locke struck out six batters and allowed two walks to improve to 6-1 on the season. Bazant went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a triple.
The Bruins took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run single up the middle by Bazant in the bottom of the first inning.
A bases-clearing triple by Bazant pushed the BU lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second.
A sacrifice fly to left field by Jacob LaCelle extended the BU advantage to 6-0 in the the third.
After a triple to left field, Martinez scored the Bruins' seventh run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth frame.
Bellevue scored two runs on a bases-loaded fielding error by Viking second baseman Troy Langan and added the 10th run on a wild pitch by Ian Gray that allowed Morales to end the game in the bottom of the fifth with the final 10-0 score.
